What ages does Redwood serve?
Redwood's youngest clients start at 6 weeks of age and we serve clients up until any age as long as they still benefit from our care.
Are there other agencies like Redwood in the Northern Kentucky-Greater Cincinnati area?
No. There are similar agencies, but none that provide the wide-range and scope of care for children and adults with disabilities.
What are Redwood’s main funding sources?
Close to 55% of our funding comes from government funding and grants, 23% from program fees, 13% from United Way, 8% from Redwood's Special Events and 1% other sources.
How can I volunteer at Redwood?
We love volunteers! You can enrich the lives of our children and help our adults achieve independence at Redwood in our programs from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays. We also always need volunteers to supervise the adult clients in Workforce Success. Redwood is always in need of volunteers to help spruce up the inside and outside of our facility. We have virtual volunteer opportunities and special projects for marketing and prospect research professionals. How are clients referred to Redwood?
Children and adults are referred to Redwood in different ways. Our clients come from all over the Northern Kentucky-Greater Cincinnati community.
Adult clients are generally taken off the Northern Kentucky waiting list and usually screened to determine appropriate services prior to high school graduation. Case managers may refer adults who have graduated prior to seeking services and their names are placed on the waiting list at that time.
Children are referred to Redwood in numerous ways: by other childcare centers that recognize a particular need that they are not equipped to work with, through the First Steps Early Intervention program/process, by pediatricians that suspect a special need, through Children’s Hospital, and of course word of mouth.

How did Redwood get started?
The Redwood story began in 1953 when Al and Dorothy Wood teamed up with Bill and Sue Reder to create a place where people with disabilities could grow into healthy, happy and productive members of their community. The Woods and the Reders were Redwood’s first volunteers, and their legacy is one of compassion, generosity and community involvement.
What are the ratios between special needs and typical children?
Our childcare program keeps a consistent ratio in each classroom of 50% children with special needs and 50% typical children.
What are the credentials of childcare teachers?
Redwood’s Lead Caregivers in Early Childhood Development are required to have a Child Development Associate or higher.
What is the Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC)?
The ATRC provides a variety of services in support of the use of assistive technology by individuals with disabilities. Services are provided to individual consumers, families, professionals, schools and other agencies. Through equipment loans, demonstrations and training the ATRC works to meet the unique needs of all people with disabilities.

Redwood is accredited by the National Association for Education of Young Children and by the Kentucky Stars for Kids Now; certified by the Kentucky Education Cabinet, Department of Education to provide preschool services and is certified under the provisions of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Program.
In addition to the above standards, Redwood adheres to best practices guidelines of the National School Aged Care Alliance; Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America (assistive technology); Department of Vocational Rehabilitation; Association for Persons in Supported Employment; the code of Ethics of the Association for Fundraising Professionals.
