What You Need to Know About Redwood’s Medical Day Care Program

Some children have complex medical needs that require more attention and support than is offered in a regular daycare or classroom. That’s why Redwood offers Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care, or PPEC for short.

The PPEC program offers specialized nursing services in an all-inclusive, high-quality childcare environment. The nurses detect and address medical issues throughout the day, adapt dietary programs and support nutritional wellbeing, respond to medical emergencies, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals and the family to provide the best possible care to the child.

Together, Redwood’s staff of RNs, LPNs, early childhood educators, child life specialists, speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists, dietary supervisors and assistive technology professionals, help children shatter barriers and develop skills to improve quality of life. The PPEC daycare includes a stimulating day with play experiences, theme-based activities, exploration of learning centers, and fun activities with other children to encourage collaboration, partnership and friendship. The children are intentionally placed in classrooms with others who have disabilities and those without so they can learn to respect one another, their abilities and their boundaries.

We recognize that childcare costs are rising and finding quality childcare for children with complex medical needs can be challenging. You may be eligible to have PPEC program costs funded through Kentucky Medicaid. Redwood staff are committed to assisting you through the Medicaid and PPEC Medical Daycare process. Once enrolled, parents and families will have peace of mind knowing their loved one is receiving healthcare at a non-residential facility instead of the alternative of hospitalization, institution or in-home care.

The experienced redwood staff and nurses can assist in making the PPEC process easy to navigate, resulting in children getting the care they deserve. If you or someone you know is interested in PPEC services, please contact Katrina Proud at (859) 331-0880.
